400;\">Over the past few years, working from home has gone from a temporary fix during the pandemic to a long-term shift in how many of us work. But while remote and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archieapp.co\/blog\/hybrid-work-examples-and-practices\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hybrid models<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are now a big part of modern work culture, how they&#8217;re adopted varies a lot depending on location, company size, industry, and even culture.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-871a819 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"871a819\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How much are people working from home?<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b3a03f6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b3a03f6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the US, the <a href=\"https:\/\/wfhresearch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WFH Research<\/a> team tracks how many paid workdays are done at home vs in the workplace. Their data shows a clear shift over time:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, before COVID, only about <\/span><b>5\u20137%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of paid workdays were done from home.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the <\/span><b>2020 lockdowns<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, that jumped to roughly <\/span><b>60%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By <\/span><b>2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, things have settled at around <\/span><b>25%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of paid workdays worked from home.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So remote work has come down from the peak, but it\u2019s still more than <\/span><b>three times higher<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than before the pandemic. Working from home a couple of days a week is now a normal part of many office jobs, not a special perk for a few people.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The same research group runs the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roberthalf.com\/us\/en\/insights\/research\/remote-work-statistics-and-trends\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Survey of Working Arrangements<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which looks at work-from-home patterns in many countries. On average, workers now report about <\/span><b>1.3 days per week<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> working from home. For college-educated employees, that works out to roughly <\/span><b>one in four workdays<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> happening at home instead of in the office.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>UK<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is even higher. Using the same survey, analysis suggests that employees there work from home around <\/span><b>1.8 days per week on average<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which puts the UK close to the top among advanced economies for remote days.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Put together, the picture is pretty simple:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re no longer in the \u201ceveryone is at home all the time\u201d phase of 2020.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But we\u2019re also not back to the old five-days-in-the-office routine.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For many knowledge workers in the US, UK, and beyond, <\/span><b>about one in four workdays now happens at home<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and that level has been fairly stable for the last few years. Work from home has shifted from a \u201ctemporary fix\u201d to a built-in part of the normal workweek.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5393417 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5393417\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Where do people work from home the most?<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-953be6d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"953be6d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><b>Some parts of the world are a lot more open to <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/archieapp.co\/blog\/remote-work-statistics\/\"><b>remote work<\/b><\/a><b> than others. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People in the U.S., Canada, the UK, and Australia work from home the most \u2014 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/siepr.stanford.edu\/publications\/essay\/working-home-2025-five-key-facts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">about 1.5 to 2 days each week<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Western Europe is a little behind, averaging around 1 to 1.5 days. In Latin America and Africa, it\u2019s closer to one day per week. And in many parts of Asia, people work from home the least \u2014 just half a day to one day per week on average.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why such a big difference?<\/span><b> Culture plays a big role<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wfhresearch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/w32374.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One major study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that countries where people value individual freedom and independence, like the U.S., UK, and Australia, are more likely to support <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archieapp.co\/blog\/flexible-workspace-tech-stacks\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">flexible work<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In places where teamwork and structure are a bigger focus, like many Asian countries, people are more likely to work in the office. Other things that matter include how crowded a city is, how tech-savvy a country is, and how strict their lockdowns were during COVID.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b6836d8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b6836d8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Bigger company, bigger flexibility <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1d034bc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1d034bc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><b>Big companies are <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/click.zoom.com\/navigating-the-future-of-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>much more likely<\/b><\/a><b> to offer WFH or hybrid work than smaller ones. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s because they need to hire people for lots of different jobs, and sometimes the right person doesn\u2019t live nearby. By offering remote work, they can find the best talent, no matter where they live \u2014 even across the country or in other parts of the world.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-627c9f7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"627c9f7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Who gets to work from home also depends on the role<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-86ea7f5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"86ea7f5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Managers and executives are more likely to work from home than junior employees. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwi.com\/blog\/working-from-home-vs-office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Around 60%<\/b><\/a><b> of middle managers and 57% of executives work from home at least some of the time<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Meanwhile, only 48% of junior staff do, and 43% of them are still working full-time in the office.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why so? One reason is that junior employees may be seeking mentorship or face-to-face learning, while leaders have more autonomy to choose where they work. But this gap can create tension.
